Nor'easters eliminate Seahawks

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Behind a career-high seven goals from Keara Dwyer (CCC 3rd Team), third-seeded University of New England advanced past sixth-seeded Salve Regina University, 24-10, in the first round of the 2019 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Lacrosse Championship at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Nor'easters (10-7) travel to No.2 Roger Williams University on Tuesday for the semifinals, after the Hawks shutout (19-0) seventh seed Wentworth. RWU took the regular-season meeting against UNE on April 6 in Biddeford by a 16-6 margin.

UNE opened a 6-1 lead at the 21:39 mark of the first half, but Salve Regina scored the next three goals to cut the deficit to two and force a UNE timeout. The Nor'easters put in four straight to jump out to their largest lead of the first half at 10-4 with 11:40 to play. UNE held a 13-8 advantage at the break.

UNE outscored Salve Regina by an 11-2 spread in the second half. Molly Camelo (CCC 2nd Team) scored four of her five goals in the period to reach the 100-point milestone for her career. Dwyer, also a sophomore, hit that same mark eight minutes earlier.

Casey Conwell recorded seven points for the Nor'easters on four goals and three assists. Julia Benjamin added goal and four assists. Olivia Carpenter (CCC 1st Team) scored twice to go with six ground balls and five draw controls. Maritza Nary made her first start between the pipes and stopped nine shots to earn the win.
