Seahawks strike first but fall to Gulls

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's lacrosse team defeated Salve Regina, 24-4, on Wednesday evening at Hempstead Stadium. 

Salve Regina took the early 1-0 lead on a tally from Kaity Doherty (Portsmouth, R.I.) at 29:18, but the Gulls responded with five goals over the next seven minutes to gain the advantage and never looked back as they stretched that lead to 17-2 at the half. 

The Gulls continued to pressure offensively in the second half to secure the 24-4 victory and improve to 2-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. 

Leading the Gulls offensively was Morgan Pike (Shapleigh, Maine) with four goals, while Jennifer Lacroix (Wrentham, Mass.) and Alex Fitzgerald (Guilford, Conn.) were close behind with three goals each. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Bella Rino (Northborough, Mass.) got the start in net and made two saves in the first half. Marissa Karras (Middleton, Mass.) came in for the second half and recorded one save.

  • Jackie Healy (Northborough, Mass.) and Fitzgerald dished out a team-high four assists each. 

  • Also finding the back of the net for the Gulls throughout the contest were Mollie Manning (Hull, Mass.), Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.), Tori Hurley (Glastonbury, Conn.), Katie Wagner (Brewster, N.Y.), Maggie Berger(Old Lyme, Conn.), Abigail Berger (Old Lyme, Conn.), Maya Feigenbaum(West Hartford, Conn.), Hannah Schilling (Newburyport, Mass.), Nicole Anselmo (Natick, Mass.), and Julia Lantieri (Glastonbury, Conn.). 

  • Hurley and Schilling's tallies were the first of their collegiate careers. 

  • Schilling, Feigenbaum, Hurley, and M. Berger were each credited with assists. 

  • For the Seahawks, Doherty scored two goals, while Kiley Anderson (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Olivia Slysz (South Hadley, Mass.)each had one tally. 

  • Christina Myers (River Edge, N.J.) shifted to 3-2 in net for Salve Regina with seven saves in the first half. Bridget Newbury (Bridgewater, Mass.) made three saves in the second half.
