CCC Rookie of the Week: Maddie Villareal

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's lacrosse freshman Maddie Villareal (Portsmouth, R.I.) has won the Rookie of the Week awards for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

Villareal helped Salve Regina go 3-0 this week by being a force on the offensive end. The freshman netted nine goals this week with six of them coming in a single game against Nichols. She also contributed by tallying four assists. The young Seahawk also grabbed four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Villareal, who leads the Seahawks in scoring, currently sits in fourth place in the CCC in goals scored.

"I'm really happy for Maddie and the Salve women's lacrosse program," said head coach Bill Villareal. "She wanted to be an impact player for this team from the very beginning and she's doing just that. She continues improving her game by working hard on her moves, shot selections and understanding her opponents through film review. It's exciting to see her grow in the college game, congrats again to Maddie."

Salve Regina (8-6, 4-3 CCC) wraps up the regular season on April 25 in Springfield, Mass. against Western New England.
