Wildcats snap Seahawks four-game win streak

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A first-half offensive outburst launched the Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team to its second double-digit victory in a row. The Wildcats posted a 22-10 decision over Salve Regina on Thursday.

Of Note:
The Seahawks pulled within 7-5 on Katie Kline's third goal of the first half at the 7:35 mark. Kline tied Kaitlin Gillespie for the team lead at three goals.

Johnson & Wales went on a 7-4 run the rest of the half with freshman Maria Patane (Greenwich, NY) scoring with seven seconds left in the half to send JWU into the locker room up 14-7. Patane tied her season-high with three goals and added three assists for a season-best six points.

JWU recorded the first three goals to take a 17-7 lead on Gabrielle Vasile's (Milford, Mass.) third goal. Juliana Giello (Warwick, RI) set her career-high when she scored her fifth goal with 11:19 remaining in the game. Vasile and Giello were two of five Wildcats to score multiple goals.

The Wildcats controlled the game by winning 20-of-33 draw controls while also having a 27-17 advantage for ground balls. That led JWU to outshooting the Seahawks, 39-26. Wildcat goalieMarianna Consiglio (New Fairfield, Conn.) made 14 saves to collect her fourth victory.

Up Next:
JWU is on the road Sunday when it travels to Norwich for a 3:30 p.m. contest. The game was moved from Saturday to Sunday in anticipation of inclement weather. Salve Regina will return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action this Saturday against Gordon at 3 p.m.
