Middletown, R.I. – Gaudet Field
Saturday, April 16, 2016

Summary
The Salve Regina University women's lacrosse fell 13-7 to Gordon College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup on Senior Day.

Series and Streaks
This was the 20th meeting between Salve Regina and Gordon College. The Scots have now won 13 in a row over the Seahawks and hold a 19-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Gordon senior Jessica Castelline (Concord, Mass.) scored six goals to lead all scorers.
2 – Gordon senior Bailey Grinnell (South Hamilton, Mass.) scored three times and notched an assist.
3 – Salve Regina junior Kaitlin Gillespie (Haddam, Conn.) scored three time to lead the Seahawks.

Key Stat of the Game
The Scots used long scoring runs to pull away from the Seahawks. Twice the Scots were able to string together four straight goals, the Seahawks could manage back-to-back goals twice.

Turning Point
The Seahawks had the ball for the first three minutes of the game and scored to lead 1-0. The lead only lasted 32 seconds though. Jessica Castelline scored to tie the game, then again 15 seconds later to give the Scots a lead they would not relinquish the entire night.

Quick Hits

  • The Seahawks honored their seven seniors with a pregame ceremony. Erin Gerhard (Scituate, Mass.), Katie Jones (Derry, N.H.), Morgan McNulty (Durham, Conn.), Katherine Miele (North Reading, Mass.), Kimberly Provax (Wayne, N.J.), Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.), and Shannon Usseglio (Wethersfield, Conn.) comprise Salve Regina's class of 2016.
  • The Seahawks collected 16 groundballs to the Scots 12, with Gillespie grabbing a game-high four of them.
  • Gordon outshot Salve Regina 30-24.
  • After the initial three minute surge to begin the game the Seahawks rarely had the ball. The Scots controlled the pace of play, spending a lot of time in the Seahawks zone, and forcing turnovers, limiting the Seahawks chances to come back in the game.
