Seahawks soar to 18-11 victory
Providence, R.I.- Sophomore Sarah Woods (East Lyme, Conn.) posted a career-high four goals as she led the Salve Regina women's lacrosse team to an 18-11 win over Rhode Island College. The victory snaps a three-game skid for the Seahawks.
The 18 goals were a season-high for the Seahawks (2-4), who snapped a three-game losing streak with the win. Rhode Island College falls to 2-2 with the loss, snapping its two-game winning streak.
Woods also added a pair of caused turnovers for Salve Regina, Tortorici corralled a team-high five draw controls. Senior defender Danielle Malconian (Belmont, Mass.) and junior defender Kayla Sheehan (Pomfret, Conn.) led the Seahawks in ground balls with three each.
Junior midfielder Jessalyn O'Neill (North Providence, R.I.) notched a goal for RIC, while sophomore midfielder Harmony Tillison (Cranston, R.I.) led the Anchorwomen with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Ricci and Signoriello each finished with three draw controls to lead RIC in that regard.
Junior goalkeeper Josephine O'Reilly (Middletown, R.I.) earned the win (2-2) and made 11 saves along the way, while junior goalkeeper Taryn Carbone (Cranston, R.I.) made 12 saves and fell to 2-2 with the loss.
The Seahawks outshot the Anchorwomen, 42-27, on the day, which included a 27-9 disparity in the first half.
