MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Visiting University of New England defeated the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team 7-0 in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action early Friday afternoon.
Series and Streaks
The Seahawks still own a 5-4-1 record all-time.
Three Stars of the Game
- UNE junior Julia Benjamin (Tolland, Conn.) made 18 saves in a shutout performance.
- UNE junior Kyra Yu (Ogden, Utah) scored her third of the season in the first period to start the scoring. It proved to be the game-winning goal.

Turning Point
The Seahawks had three powerplay opportunities to start the first period, including a 5-on-3, but could not convert against the fifth ranked penalty kill in the nation. Shortly after killing off the 5-on-3, Yu scored to put the Nor'easters in front, then Jessie Scott (Barre, Vt.) cashed in with seconds remaining on a Nor'easters powerplay to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Four more goals in the second period put the game out of reach for the Seahawks.
Quick Hits
- Seven different players scored for the Nor'easters.
- Madison Jalbert (Beverly, Mass.) made 11 saves in the loss to fall to 1-8 on the season before giving way to Hailey Martin (Berkley, Mass.) who played the entirety of the third period.
- Benjamin played 52 minutes before handing the reigns over to senior Chelsey Caron (Berlin, N.H.) who did not face a shot in just her third collegiate appearance.
- The Nor'easters held a 25-18 edge in shots.
- UNE went 1-for-2 on the powerplay while the Seahawks were held to 0-for-4 with the advantage.
