Seahawks participate in Relay for Life to support Angela's Army

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team participated in this past weekend's Relay for Life as "Angela's Army" in support Angela Augusta who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year after graduating from Salve Regina.

Augusta, who graduated in May with a degree in Business Administration, was a four-year player for the women's ice hockey program. 

"We celebrated and paid tribute to people that have conquered cancer and support those that are still fighting the disease," said head coach Beth McCann. "It is our mission and passion to support our teammate and continue the efforts of Angela's Army to promote awareness, contribute to the fundraising efforts to eliminate cancer and most importantly support the ones still battling cancer and their families."

Relay For Life is a community-based fundraising event for the American Cancer Society and many other Cancer related institutions, societies and associations. Each year, more than 5,000 Relay For Life events take place in over twenty countries. Events are held in local communities, campus universities and in virtual worlds. As the American Cancer Society's most successful fundraiser and the organization's signature event, the mission of Relay For Life is to raise funds to improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers. The Angela's Amy team raised $500.00 to aid in the fight against cancer.

The Salve Regina University field hockey team plans to have a fundraiser game for Angela's Army on Saturday, October 19, while the women's ice hockey team will host a fundraiser during their game on November 23.
