MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Visiting UMass Boston defeated the Salve Regina University women's hockey team 2-1 Saturday evening in a non-conference matchup at St. George's.

  1. UMass junior Erica Lunn (Kingston, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal early in the third period. She also handed out an assist.
  2. Salve Regina senior Jennifer O'Connell (Marstons Mills, Mass.) made 29 saves in the loss to fall to 2-5-1 between the pipes. She also passes Rebecca Simmons for the most career games played by a Seahawks goaltender (69).
  3. UMass senior Alyssa DePippo (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 17 saves to improve to 4-4-1.

The Beacons outshot the Seahawks 31-18 and did not allow the Seahawks more than six shots in any period.

Turning Point
The Beacons led 1-0 heading into the third period thanks to an Edy Moritz (Guilford, Conn.) score at 14:39 of the second period. Erica Lunn, who assisted on the Moritz goal, lit the lamp herself 1:54 in the third period to make it a 2-0 advantage for the visitors. It proved to be a necessary goal as Taylor Chisholm (Discovery Bay, Calif.) scored on a powerplay for the Seahawks with one minute remaining to make it a 2-1 game. Salve Regina could not get another shot on net in the final minute and the Beacons hung on for the victory.
