Seahawks overcome 2-0 deficit to earn first victory

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Alexandra Anderson scored near the midway mark of the 3rd period to lift Salve Regina University to a 3-2 decision over the University of New England in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women's action Friday evening (Nov. 10) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Seahawks (1-4, 1-2 NEHC) trailed 2-0 after the 1st, but drew even on the scoreboard in the 2nd to set the stage for Anderson's game-winner in the final session.

The Nor'easters (1-1-1, 1-1-1 NEHC) set the tone in the opening stanza, out-shooting their opponent by a 19-8 margin and putting two of those into the back of the net. Tatum Gietl tallied the first one (11:49) on a 5-on-3 power-play, with assists to Michaela McLaughlin and Julianne Sheehan. Then Sheehan found Jessica Tolzman up the left side, who fired it into the top-left corner.

Salve slowly chipped away at the margin during the middle period. Just six seconds into a power-play, Gabi Hillner fired a shot from the point, only to find the stick of Maddy McCann for the tip-in. The Seahawks would tie the game in the closing minute of the frame as Angela Augusta slipped a pass to Taylor Chisholm, who gained the line and scored top-shelf.

Anderson started the play that resulted in her goal, poking to puck out of the defensive zone to Carley Bauckham, who then turned it back to Anderson for the marker with 11:30 remaining in the contest.

Jennifer O'Connell had a busy night between the pipes for Salve Regina, piling up 44 saves.
