SEAHAWK WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY RESULTS
Plymouth State 4, Salve Regina 2
Middletown, Rhode Island - Howard Rink (St. George's)
Saturday, November 19, 2016

Summary
Despite being outshot 41-28, the visiting Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team doubled up Salve Regina on the scoreboard, winning 4-2 in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) play Saturday afternoon.

Series and Streaks
This was the 14th meeting between the times since the first starting facing each other in 2007. It is the first win ever for the Panthers over the Seahawks, who still own a 13-1 advantage all-time.

Three Stars of the Game
1 - Plymouth St. freshman Alexis Fagan (Wakefield, R.I.) - scored the first goal of the game and assisted on two others, the first assists of her career.
2 - Plymouth St. junior Mariah Trupp (Topeka, Kansas) - stopped 39 shots for a .951 save percentage to improve to 2-0 on the season in net for the Panthers.
3 - Salve Regina freshman Amanda Fantasia (Billerica, Mass.) - scored her first career points, a goal in the second period and an assist in the third.

Key Stat of the Game
Salve Regina outshot the Panthers 41-28 in the game, but could not finish quality chances, while the Panthers converted on their most opportune chances. It did not help that the Seahawks also went 1-for-5 on the powerplay.

Turning Point
Salve Regina had trailed 2-0 heading in to the second period, but clawed back to within one goal after Amanda Fantasia blasted in a shot from the right point just over two minutes into the period. The Seahawks continued to get chances, but seemed always a step late, or inches from getting their sticks on a loose puck near the goal. After some back and forth the Seahakws turned the puck over in the neutral zone leading to a breakout for Brooke Maggy (Alhambra, Calif.). With just one defender backpedaling Maggy whipped a shot on net that trickled through Jennifer O'Connell (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and in to reestablish a two-goal lead. Thirty-one seconds later Alexis Fagan found Elanor Hudson wide open in front and she rolled a shot past O'Connell giving the Panthers their largest lead on the day.

Quick Hits

  • Amanda Fantasia scored her first career goal on a one-timer from the blue line in the second period, then dished out her first career assist to Brooke Morgan (De Pere, Wisc.) who consequently scored her first career goal in the third period with four seconds left on a powerplay.
  • Jennifer O'Connell made 24 stops in the loss as she continues to lead the NEHC in saves, now with 289 overall on the season, and 237 against conference opponents.
  • Kelsey Roy (Ft. Collins, Colo.) scored her fourth goal of the season in the first period. She had just finished serving a penalty when she cam streaking out of the box and received a home-run pass from her defense that came from just in front on netminder Mariah Trupp. Well ahead of the field Roy skated in on the breakaway and snuck a puck in to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
