MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Senior Danielle Phalon (Stoneham, Mass.) scored a hat-trick goal with 1:58 remaining in the third period to help seal a 4-2 win for the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team over Nichols College in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action Friday night.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks have now won nine in a row over the Bison and own a 16-0-1 record all-time over Nichols.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Salve Regina senior Danielle Phalon scored two goals in the first and another in the third for her second hat-trick of the season. Both coming against Nichols.
2 – Salve Regina freshman Taylor Chisholm (Discovery Bay, Calif.) notched two assist in the game.
3 – Nichols sophomore Lindsay O'Connell (Danvers, Mass.) stopped 26 shots and made several spectacular saves during the second and third periods to keep the Bison in the game.

Key Stat of the Game
The Bison only managed three shots in the first period while the Seahawks scored three goals to take a 3-0 lead after one. The deficit and slow start proved to be too much for the Bison to overcome.

Turning Point
The Bison battled back and stole the momentum in the second period drawing within one after two goals in quick succession. The Seahawks were able to weather the storm and regain control of the game, but still only held a 3-2 lead late in the second. The Seahawks got a powerplay with 2:58 remaining and made us of it when Danielle Phalon buried a shot from the left wing past O'Connell to give the Seahawks some breathing room with little time left for the Bison to come back.

Quick Hits

  • The Bison stole back momentum in the second period after a tangle between Molly O'Sullivan (Wilmington, N.C.) and Amanda Moquin (Middleboro, Mass.) sparked the Bison. They converted a powerplay goal quickly then using that momentum out hustled the Seahawks to lose pucks, eventually scoring again to draw within a goal, 3-2.
  • Laura Christie (Hudson, Mass.) scored the powerplay goal for the Bison, while Kristen Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) scored the Bison's second goal.
  • The Seahawks outshot the Bison 30-21 overall in the game.
  • Freshman Jennifer O'Connell (Marstons Mills, Mass.) made 19 saves in net for Salve Regina, improving to 5-1-0 on the season.
  • Briana D'Avolio (Reading, Mass.) scored her team-leading 16th goal in the first period to give the Seahawks their 3-0 lead.
  • The Seahawks were 1-3 on the powerplay while the Bison were 1-5.
