RYE, N.Y. – Manhattanville was unable to solve the pressure of the Salve Regina attackers, falling to the Seahawks 4-1 in a New England Hockey Conference matchup Friday evening at Playland Ice Casino.

Manhattanville (7-13-0, 5-8-0 NEHC) was able to outshoot the Seahawks (7-10-2, 5-5-1 NEHC) 30-27 on the night, but were only able to get one puck past Salve Regina goaltender Jennifer O'Connell (Marston Mills, Mass.).  Senior Kyra Herbert (Plainfield, N.H./Lebanon) netted the lone goal for Manhattanville, taking a pass from junior Lindsay Diot(Bethel, Conn./Boston Shamrocks) and beating O'Connell on the glove side in the second period after Diot caused a turnover in the offensive zone.

The goal came after the Valiants fell behind 2-0 after allowing two first period goals to the Seahawks.  Danielle Phalon (Stoneham, Mass.), Salve Regina's leading scorer, got the Seahawks on the board with a goal on the power play.  The Seahawks wasted no time tacking on another goal 45 seconds later on what would turn out to be the game-winning goal.

Salve Regina would respond to Herbert's goal by tacking on another goal in the second period, courtesy of Madison Labyak (Hancock, Mich.). It was Labyak's first career goal as a Seahawk. The Seahawks would also add an empty net goal late in the third period for the final 4-1 margin.

With the win, Salve Regina moves ahead of Manhattanville into fifth place among Division III teams in the New England Hockey Conference.  The Valiants will look to get back on the winning track tomorrow afternoon when they host #5 Amherst College at 4:00 P.M. Salve Regina will be on the road again against UMass Boston at 1:00 p.m.
