Saturday, January 30, 2016

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Trailing by two goals in the third period the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team forced overtime but eventually lost 4-3 when Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) scored with 49 seconds left in the extra frame for Franklin Pierce University.

Series and Streaks
The Ravens earned their first victory of the series and still trail 2-1-1 all-time to the Seahawks.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Salve Regina junior Colleen Marcik (Madison, Conn.) made 47 saves between the pipes for the Seahawks.
2 – Franklin Pierce sophomore Alex Brolsma scored the game-winning goal in overtime.
3 – Franklin Pierce junior Michelle Holmes (Goffstown, N.H.) scored a goal and assisted on the game winner.

Key Stat of the Game
The Ravens out shot the Seahawks 51-34 overall and 31-17 through the first two periods, helping them build their 3-1 lead.

Turning Point
The Seahawks were outshot 8-2 in the overtime period, and it was multiple chances from former Seahawk Michelle Holmes that resulted in the game-winning goal. The Seahawks were unable to clear the puck and Holmes grabbed it along the right wing side and walked into the slot, dishing it off at the last moment to Brolsma. Marcik made a sprawling save and even slowed down the rebound, but Brolsma was able to fight though it and coax the puck around the Seahawks netminder for the game-winner.
