Seahawks place four on All-Conference squad

DANBURY, Conn. – With the conference tournament set to begin this coming weekend, the ECAC Women's East Hockey League announced its yearly awards and All-Conference teams on Thursday. Four players from the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team made the squad.

Danielle Phalon (Stoneham, Mass.) was selected a first team forward while senior captain and forward Sarah Markey (Ashland, Mass.), defenseman Amanda Cronin (Medfield, Mass.), and sophomore goaltender Colleen Marcik (Madison, Conn.) were all named to the second team. It is the most players the program has ever had make an All-Conference team.

"Behind each one of our players recognized there is great support from teammates, coaches and Salve Regina Athletics," said head coach Beth McCann. "Without this support this recognition would not have been possible for our teammates."

Phalon led the Seahawks and the league in goals with 17, including three on the power play. Phalon scored three game-winning goals, a shorthanded goal, and scored the hat trick versus Plymouth State on January 24.

Markey was Salve Regina's points leader, scoring 12 goals, and notching 14 assists for 26 total points. Markey ranked third in the conference in points scored. She scored five times on the power play and scored the game-winning goal versus Wesleyan on January 20 in a 3-1 victory for the Seahawks.

Cronin led all Salve Regina defensemen with five goals and 11 assists. She was second on the team in plus minus at +10 and scored twice on the powerplay.

Marcik posted a superb season, stopping 633 shots for a 2.16 goals against average and a .931 save percentage. Marcik also posted a career best five shutouts. Her season record stands at 14-7-1.

The 2015 ECAC Women's East Tournament begins on Saturday, February 28, with four quarterfinal games. The tournament will feature a final-four format, with the semifinals taking place on Saturday, March 7 and the championship taking place on Sunday, March 8 at the highest remaining seed. 

Salve Regina will host Nichols College on Saturday February 28 at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
