MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – With just 27 seconds left in overtime, sophomore Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill.) netted the game-winning goal to lift Saint Anselm past the Salve Regina women's ice hockey team, Saturday night.

Salve Regina (2-3, 1-3 ECAC East) jumped out to an early lead as junior Sarah Markey (Ashland, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season off a pass from classmate Michaela Chiuccariello (Winchester, Mass.) to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead 9:51 into the first.

Saint Anselm's (6-1, 4-0 ECAC East) sophomore Jessica Galliczewski (Kings Park, N.Y.) tied the game 5:49 with a high slap shot over the Seahawk goalie's right shoulder. Chiuccariello added her own goal just over a minute later to put the Seahawks back on top, 2-1, in the second period. With just under eight minutes to play, sophomore Nina Gozzi (Suffield, Conn.) once again tied the game for the Hawks after her first two shots were off target.

After winning a face off, sophomore Sarah Geisinger (Willoughby, Ohio) took advantage of the Hawks' power player and gave Saint Anselm its first lead of the game with a goal off a pass from junior Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.).

Markey added her second goal of the game to knot the game at 3-3 with 7:04 to play in regulation. With 1:43 to play in the third, the Seahawks found themselves on a power play opportunity and tested the Hawks goalie, junior Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) Salve Regina sent four shots Brown's way, including one that caused a scrum in front of the net with three seconds left on the clock. Salve Regina was unable to get the puck across the line and the game headed into overtime.

As time was winding down in overtime, Saint Anselm sent three shots off the net before Kazmer found a hole in front of the net and slid the puck under Salve Regina goalie, freshman Colleen Marcik (Madison, Conn.) with 27 seconds left in the game.

Marcik made 23 saves in the net for Salve Regina while Brown stopped 20 shots for Saint Anselm.

Salve Regina returns to the ice tomorrow when the Seahawks host UMass. – Boston at 7 p.m. while the Hawks take on Holy Cross  at 4 p.m.
