Esielionis, Scorpio earn all-conference accolades
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University senior Ally Esielionis (Shirley, Mass.) and sophomore Torie Scorpio (Cranston, R.I.) earn a spot on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball all-conference second team in voting released by the league's coaches at the end of the regular season.
"I am pleased to learn that Tor and Ally are getting the recognition they so greatly deserve; both have been vital to our team's success!" exclaims 11th-year head coach Cori Hughes.
Scorpio earns her second straight nod on the All-CCC squad coming off her Rookie of the Year campaign last season. She has upped her shooting percentages from last year - overall (.360 to .386), 3-pointers (.289 to .390), and free throws (.706 to .741). Scorpio ranks third in the league in 3-point shooting percentage (32-for-82). In a home win against Nichols earlier this month, she made a career-high 10 field goals.
Esielionis has scored a career high 237 points in 24 games (9.9 ppg). Her .391 shooting percentage is also a career-best for the six-foot forward/center. Esielionis twice had posted career high six blocked shots in a game before this past Saturday she swatted seven Scots shots in a Salve Regina victory over Gordon College.
Salve Regina (13-11, 10-8 CCC) earned the No. 5 seed and travels to No. 4 seed Western New England University for a quarterfinal matchup (7 p.m.).
