Seahawks land 78 student-athletes on Spring CCC All-Academic Team

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University has landed 78 student-athletes on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) 2017 Spring Academic All-Conference Team, announced by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

The spring list includes participants from each of the CCC's 10 full member institutions, plus the three associate members, who participated in men's and women's basketball, men's ice hockey, baseball, men's golf, men's and women's lacrosse, men's tennis, and softball. Participants in the CCC swimming and diving or track and field invitationals from those schools are also eligible.

In order to be recognized as a member of the Academic All-Conference Team an athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale) and must also have attained sophomore status.

Men's ice hockey, which celebrated its inaugural season as a CCC Championship sport this year, had the most representatives among all the sports on this year's list with 116.

Nine members on this year's spring team were also recognized for their academic accomplishments earlier this year when they were selected as the Senior Scholar-Athletes in their respective sports. Endicott's Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.) and Eastern Nazarene's BreAnna Fraser (Henderson, Nev.) were the two honorees in men's and women's basketball respectively, while Curry's Ellery O'Hara (Toronto, Ontario) took home the first-ever honor in men's ice hockey. ENC's Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) took home the honor in men's tennis. The University of New England was represented in three sports as Dan Auger (Nashua, N.H.) was recognized in men's lacrosse, Jocelyn Davee (Freeport, Maine) was honored in women's lacrosse, and Sydney Helmbrecht(Grand Rapids, Minn.) was selected in softball. Daniel Morin (Salem, N.H.) and Matt Fontaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.), both from Western New England, were the honorees in baseball and men's golf, respectively.

In addition to their academic prowess, 10 student-athletes also displayed excellence in competition and received high honors at the end of their seasons. The Endicott duo of Michael Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) and Kevin Gould (Rollinsford, N.H.) were selected, respectively, as the player and pitcher of the year in baseball, while their fellow Gulls Kevin Aldridge (Birmingham, Mich.) and Bella Rino (Northborough, Mass.) were also honored as the men's ice hockey goaltender and women's lacrosse defensive player of the year. Softball teammates Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) and Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass). from Salve Regina were the player and pitcher of the Year, respectively. Nichols' Marcos Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) and Wentworth's Sam Knollmeyer (Hampton, N.H.) took home the two men's basketball honors with Echavarria earning player of the year, while Knollmeyer was the defensive player of the year. Both lacrosse offensive players of the year, UNE's Auger on the men's side and Roger Williams's Kaelin Hogan(Bethel, Conn.), were also members of the Academic All-Conference list this spring.

Overall there were 38 Academic All-CCC members who were also recognized as First Team All-CCC members. There were also 29 Second Team and 26 Third Team performers.
