Tale of the Tape - Salve Regina v. Western New England

SALVE REGINA VS. WESTERN NEW ENGLAND
  • Salve Regina leads, 6-5, in a series that began in 2002.
  • The teams split last year's meetings, both winning on respective home courts.
  • Nursing a two-point lead (35-33) at the half on January 10, 2013, Salve Regina held visiting Western New England to 15 second-half points and delivered Cori Hughes her 100th career victory as head coach of the Seahawks. Meaghan Harden delivered a then career-high 26 points; Cortney Rosenlund came off the bench to score a then career-high 11 points. Salve Regina finished the game on a 20-0 run.
  • A driving layup by Emily Savino with 13 seconds remaining in the game lifted the Western New England to a 53-51 victory against Salve Regina less than three weeks later (January 29, 2013). Savino finished with 17 points while Harden led all players with 19 points. Marissa Pendergast had a double-double for the Seahawks (14 pts, 12 rebs).

  • Curry took its biggest lead of the game (46-38) after Kylie Beltz sank another shot from beyond the arc with 13:52 left in regulation.
  • The Seahawks answered with a 20-4 run that started with a converted three-point play by Marissa Pendergast and was capped off with a layup by Meaghan Harden with 6:46 on the clock.
  • Pendergast led all scorers with 20 points, while also pulling down 12 rebounds. Brianna Del Valle had a career-high 22 rebounds and chipped in with 17 points. Harden scored 18 points, while Laura Anne Dinan added 10.

  • Ali Pessolano scored 12 points and Katie Eckert made five free throws late to lead Western New England to a 53-49 road upset of Endicott on Saturday.
  • The visiting Golden Bears even their record to 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the CCC, while the Gulls slip to 10-4 and 6-2.
  • The senior captains' leadership was invaluable in the victory despite being out-rebounded 42-30.
  • Pessolano drained a 3-pointer from the right elbow for a 48-42 lead with two minutes and 53 seconds left in the game, and Eckert scored her only points of the afternoon by going 5-for-6 at the charity stripe down the stretch to seal it.
  • Samantha Crough and Kayleen Whall paced Endicott with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
  • Both teams made 18 field goals and 11 free throws but WNE's perimeter game was better as the Golden Bears made six 3-pointers to Endicott's two.

  • With its .500 record overall and in conference play, Western New England has no win streak or loss streak greater than two.
  • Chelsea Vujs leads the Golden Bears in scoring (12.9 ppg; 10th in league) and ranks first in the CCC in rebounding (10.1 rpg).
