Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University freshman pitcher Andi Nelson (Candia, N.H.) improved to 3-2 on the season after working 10 innings over two games allowing just three hits and two earned runs (1.80 ERA), as the Seahawks split with Curry College, 4-3 for the Colonels then 8-3 for the Seahawks, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball action at Toppa Field. The Colonels had only three hits in the opener, but collected them all in the top of the third along with two hit batsmen, and scored four runs on back-to-back basehits by Kevi Oatway (East Hartford, Conn.) and Kiana Lloyd (Worcester, Mass.). Salve Regina scratched back with a single run in the fifth and a pair in the sixth, but stranded the game-tying run at third base in the seventh. Nelson, who no-hit the Colonels over the final 4.1 innings of the opener, started the nightcap and held the visitors hitless through the first 3.2 frames. Meanwhile, the Seahawks built a 5-0 lead and then 8-2, highlighted by 3-run innings in the fourth and fifth.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks had won five straight in the series before the Colonels' 4-3 win in the opener; Salve Regina still leads the all-time series, 41-23-1.

Three Seahawk Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina freshman Andi Nelson (Candia, N.H.) worked 10 innings in the circle with the first eight allowing just two walks and no hits.
  2. Salve Regina junior Lindsey Florent (New Bedford, Mass.) went 4-for-6 in the leadoff spot and reached base six times, scored twice in the nightcap and also drove in a run.
  3. Salve Regina senior Lindsay DelGrego (Wallingford, Conn.) had a double and RBI in the opener as the designated player, then commanded left field in the nightcap with a hit-robbing shoestring catch in the second inning, and a single and sacrifice fly at the plate.

Key Stats of the Day
Salve Regina left nine runners on base in the opener and 10 in the nightcap (19 LOB in 13 innings).

Turning Points
Curry capitalized on its only three hits in the third inning of the opener, scoring four runs in the frame. Nelson allowed just two Colonels to reach base in the first four innings of the nightcap as her teammates built a 5-0 lead (one in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth).

Quick Hits

  • Curry senior starting pitcher Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) went 4.2 innings in the opener to pick up her third victory (3-4).
  • Salve Regina freshman Jaycee Garrigan (Uxbridge, Mass.) had a pair of hits in each game, scored two runs and drove in another.
  • Seahawks had four stolen bases on the day - all in the game one loss - by four different players: Florent, Garrigan, Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.), and Maddie Machado (Westport, Mass.).
  • Courtney Latta (Lowell, Mass.) pitched another scoreless inning in relief.
  • Colonel reliever Allison May (West Bridgewater, Mass.) did not allow a baserunner in 1.2 innings pitched.
