CCC Softball Championships SummarySalve Regina University softball hosts a final three at Toppa Field, needing one win for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship; winner will take conference championship and automatic bid to NCAA Division III Championships.

NCAA Regional Ranking: Salve Regina softball climbs to No. 8 in New England in the latest NCAA Division III regional rankings (May 4).

Match-up: No. 1 Salve Regina Seahawks (24-11; 16-2 CCC) will face winner of No. 2 Western New England Golden Bears (24-10; 13-5 CCC) / No. 3 Roger Williams Hawks (25-17; 12-6 CCC)

Salve Regina continues to rank second in the nation in stolen bases per game (3.37 steals per game), with CCC Player of the Year, Francesca Galeazzi, in the top ten.

CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT™
Salve Regina designated player Kara O'Riley earned a selection to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Team. O'Riley now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

HOW THEY GOT HERE
Roger Williams University concluded its regular season at 12-6 in the CCC, and earned the No. 3 seed. After a 10-1 run-rule victory against No. 7 seed Curry at Springfield, the Hawks fell 9-3 to host and No. 2 seed Western New England University.

Top seed Salve Regina has held serve in both its outings, a 1-0 victory over No. 4 seed Endicott and a 3-1 triumph over the Golden Bears.

Roger Williams won both elimination games played on Thursday at Toppa Field, first defeating No. 8 seed Gordon, 6-0, and then ending Endicott's season with a 2-0 decision.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY

  • Salve Regina split the regular-season meetings with Western New England, on April 18 (winning 6-2 before losing 2-1). The top two seeds met Thursday at Toppa with the Seahawks winning 3-1.
  • The Seahawks swept the Hawks on April 12, winning 2-1 in eight innings and then 8-7 in the nightcap. Salve Regina has won four of the last five meetings with Roger Williams, including a 2-0 final in the 2017 championship game.

Boarman, Galeazzi, and Riley are joined by six other Seahawks on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) all-conference team: seniors Nikki Bukovsky (Westport, Conn.), Kara O'Riley (Acton, Mass.), and Lexi Soucie (No. Easton, Mass.); sophomores Emily Woznick (Sandy Hook, Conn.), Lindsey Florent (New Bedford, Mass.) and Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.). Boarman named CCC Pitcher of the Year and Galeazzi named CCC Player of the Year.

COACHES' CORNER

  • Salve Regina University's first-year head coach Jannelle Iaquinto guided her team to a first-place finish in the league's regular season and earned the vote for CCC Coach of the Year.
  • The first-year head coach is the 12th skipper in the history of the Salve Regina softball program.
