Woznick homers twice in Seahawk sweep

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College softball team dropped a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) games to Salve Regina University Sunday afternoon at the Nichols Softball Field.

Game One: Salve Regina 11, Nichols 1 (5 inn.)
The Seahawks threw up six runs in the first and three more in the second behind two home runs and five RBI from freshman Emily Woznick (Sandy Hook, Conn.). She belted a three-run shot in the first and a two-run blast in the second.

Junior Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass.) allowed one hit and one run over five to earn her eighth win of the season. Nichols senior Haley Fountain (Warren, Mass.) surrendered nine hits and nine runs (eight earned) in 1.1 inning of work on Senior Day and took the loss.

Freshman Zoe Chevrette (Wilbraham, Mass.) had an RBI groundout in the fourth to account for the Nichols run.

Game Two: Salve Regina 6, Nichols 2
Sophomore Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.) broke the Nichols single-season home run record with her eighth of the year, a two-run shot in the third that plated junior Christina Barrows (Carver, Mass.).

The Seahawks scored twice in the first on an RBI single from Woznick. Meehan's round tripper in the third tied the game at two before the Seahawks scored twice in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-2 lead. Junior Nikki Bukovsky (Westport, Mass.) and sophomore Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) each drove in runs for SRU while two more were unearned.

Senior Nicole Parry (Quincy, Mass.) picked up the win for the visitors, working seven innings of five-hit ball. She allowed two runs and struck out eight. Junior Meghan Sears (Tewksbury, Mass.) gave up 10 hits and six runs (three earned) with four strikeouts over seven innings for Nichols.

All-Time Series
Today's games marked the 60th and 61st all-time meetings between Nichols College and Salve Regina University. The Seahawks are now 35-25-1 all-time against the Bison.
