NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University softball improved to 12-4 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play and an even .500 (15-15) overall with its sweep of Eastern Nazarene College (8-0 in five innings and 10-1 in six innings) after recognizing a trio of seniors - Genevieve Benoit (Swampscott, Mass.)Melissa Figueiredo (East Bridgewater, Mass.), and Nicole Parry (Quincy, Mass.) at Toppa Field.

Series and Streaks
Today's games marked the 41st and 42nd meetings between Salve Regina and Eastern Nazarene in softball. The Seahawks have a 37-5 record in the all-time series and have never lost to the Lions at Toppa Field.

Seahawks Stars of the Day
1 – Salve Regina senior Genevieve Benoit (Swampscott, Mass.) - the 2015 CCC Player of the Year caught both ends of the doubleheader with Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass.) throwing a one-hit shutout and fellow senior Nicole Parry (Quincy, Mass.) striking out seven in a six-hit effort. At the plate, Benoit's bat came alive with five hits in seven at bats including a pair of doubles.
2 – Salve Regina freshman Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) - had a 4-for-7 day at the plate including two triples, a double, three runs scored and four RBI.
3 – Salve Regina freshman Emily Woznick (Sandy Hook, Conn.) - her first-inning double in the opener plated the first two runs for Salve Regina. Woznick added two more RBI with a sacrifice fly and a third-inning single in game two.

Key Stat of the Day
Salve Regina scored 14 of its 18 runs after have two outs in an inning.

Turning Points
In first inning of game one with one out, Boarman allowed her only hit against to Becky Bahr (Brentwood, N.Y.) and then walked the next two Lions but escaped without a run against on a force out at home and a strikeout.

In game two the Seahawks plated seven runs in the sixth to walk off with the victory.

Quick Hits

  • The Seahawks had 10 extra base hits in the doubleheader - seven doubles, three triples.
  • Becky Bahr (Brentwood, N.Y.) had first-inning singles in both games for Eastern Nazarene.
  • Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) collected two hits in game two and scored the only run for the Lions in the doubleheader sweep.
  • Eastern Nazarene pitcher Heidi Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.) worked in both games and struck out six Seahawk batters to raise her league-leading total to 101 strikeouts; Nicole Parry struck out seven Lions in her start to up her total to 95.
  • The Lions have qualified for the conference's postseason and could finish sixth or seventh pending the results of Nichols' remaining four games.
  • Boarman improves to 7-8 on the season and Parry climbs above .500 (8-7) for Salve Regina.
  • Eastern Nazarene starters earned losing decisions - Heidi Gomez falls to 6-15 and Lauren Weidler (Lansdale, Pa.) drops to 9-7.
