NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University softball team has won six straight after a two-game sweep of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival University of New England. The Seahawks got a complete game shutout from Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass.) in game one and a complete game from Nicole Parry (Quincy, Mass.) in game two.

Series and Streaks
Today's games marked the 41st and 42nd meeting between Salve Regina and UNE. The Seahawks snap a two game losing streak to the Nor'easters but still trail in the all-time series 23-18-1.

Three Seahawk Stars of the Day
1 – Salve Regina junior Kelsey Boarman struck out four in seven shutout innings of work.
2 – Salve Regina senior Nicole Parry struck out six and did not allow an earned run in a complete game of action.
3 – Salve Regina freshman Lindsey Florent (New Bedford, Mass.) drove in the Seahawks only runs of game two with a two run double in the bottom of the fifth.

Key Stat of the Day
The Seahawks pitching staff held the Nor'easters, who came into today averaging 5.45 runs per game, to just to one run on seven hits combined in two games.

Turning Points
In game one the Seahawks led 2-0 but found themselves in a jam with bases loaded and just one out in the top of the 6th. Kelsey Boarman struck out Andrea Gosper (Richmond, R.I.) then Abby Lambert (Brockton, Mass.), the Nor'easters starting pitcher, grounded out to end the inning, stranding three runners. It was the Nor'easters best scoring chance of the game.

In game two the Seahawks were hitless through three innings, scoreless through four, and trailed 1-0. With two outs in the fifth inning Emily Woznick (Sandy Hook, Conn.) singled, then Megan Guest (Meridan, Conn.) laid down a perfect bunt, advancing Woznick, and beating out the throw to first. Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) drew a walk then Florent smashed in a two-run double to give the Seahawks a 2-1 lead. Parry made quick work of the Nor'easters in the sixth and seventh and the Seahawks walked away with a comeback victory.

Quick Hits

  • The only run for the Nor'easters came as the result of two errors. After hitting a double, Meghan Bolano (Wakefield, R.I.) advanced to third, then came home on consecutive errors by the Seahawks.
  • Boarman improves to 5-5 on the season while Lambert falls to 4-2 for the Nor'easters.
  • Parry is now 4-6 on the season while Katelyn Austin (Bethlehem, N.H.) falls to 5-3 for UNE.
