Boarman, Parry blank non-Jenkersons

WENHAM, Mass.—Freshman Megan Jenkerson (McDonough, Ga.) smacked two home runs, but it would not be enough as Salve Regina took two wins in Commonwealth Coast Conference softball action. The Seahawks capitalized on several Gordon mistakes and the Fighting Scots only offense came off the bat of their rookie. Salve Regina took game one 6-2 before circling the wagons for a 10-1 victory in six innings.

The Seahawks improve to 5-3 in the CCC and 7-11 overall. Gordon's tough spell continues at 1-9 in conference and 4-17-1 overall on the year.

Game One: Salve Regina 6 – 2 Gordon
The Seahawks struck first in the top of the opening inning with a trio of singles, including an RBI poke by Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.). Lombardo later scored on a single to left from Amanda Riley (Barrington, N.H.).

The next three innings breezed by until Salve added another run in the fifth with three more singles. Freshman Lindsey Florent (New Bedford, Mass.) came up with the RBI knock for the Seahawks.

Gordon scored its only two runs of the game in the bottom half of the fifth. Kaelie Mercado (Granada Hills, Calif.) reached on an error and classmate Jenkerson drove in both with a whopper to dead center.

Salve Regina ended any threat of a comeback in the seventh inning with three insurance runs. A single and an error put two runners on before Lombardo brought everybody in with a triple to the wall in right field. Lombardo scored for the second time in the game on a fielder's choice to make it 6-2.

Gordon went down in order in the final half inning.

Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass.) got her fourth win of the year, striking out seven Scots in the process. Emily Kline (Park Ridge, N.J.) allowed 10 hits and five earned runs, while putting up two K's.

Newcomers Florent and Lombardo combined for six hits and four RBI to lead the Seahawks.

Game Two: Salve Regina 10 – 1 Gordon – 6 innings
The two squads traded runs in the first inning. Nikki Bukovsky (Westport, Conn.) singled in the first run of the game, but Seahawks left three runners on base as Gordon's defense locked down after some early troubles. Jenkerson tied the game in the bottom of the first with a solo shot to right center.

It was all Seahawks from there with an error-induced run in the second and two more in the fourth off a couple of knocks. Lombardo stayed hot with an RBI double to the gap in right.

Salve really broke things open in the top of the sixth inning with six runs, forcing Gordon to make two pitching changes. Kristen Hickey (New Hyde Park N.Y.) and Bukovsky delivered three of Salve's six runs with singles.

Nicole Parry (Quincy, Mass.) only allowed one hit after giving up the homer to Jenkerson to begin the game. She struck out 11 batters and issued only two free passes.

Gordon heads to Boston tomorrow for a doubleheader with NAIA opponent Fisher College at 5 p.m. Salve Regina looks to keep a four-game hot streak going on Wednesday when they host the Nor'easters of UNE at 4 p.m.
