Killian, Lark top Seahawk pair on water; Salve Regina wins Great Herring Pond Open

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University sailing team competed in the Great Herring Pond Open hosted by Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the Providence College Invitational regatta at the Rhode Island Yacht Club.

At Mass Maritime, senior skipper Sean Beaulieu with junior crew Jen Ryan won A-division while junior skipper Jen Killian with sophomore crew Madeline Lark won B-division and were the low-point boat for the event. Together they handily beat Boston University, Tufts, Middlebury, Northeastern, Bentley, and seven other competitive teams.

Meanwhile at Providence College, freshman skipper Bridget Lawless with freshman crew Michelle Frias sailed A-division while freshman skipper Joey Lark with freshman crew Grace Benzal sailed in B-division. With one race to go they led the regatta by two points. With an unfortunate starting foul, the team clawed back, but fell short by one point finishing second overall in the the event. "It was a very strong showing by the freshmen," commented head coach John Ingalls.
