NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina sailing team competed at four regattas this past weekend in very blustery conditions.

At the University of Vermont, freshman Charlie Welsh finished second in his first collegiate dinghy race with junior crew Angelina Todaro. JP Silvestri with senior crew and team captain Baillie Lawless braved blasts up to 30 mph. Together the team finished 10th overall, just in front of the Coast Guard Academy in an extremely competitive fleet.

At Boston College, juniors Shannon Killian and Katie Travers sailed in A-division while sophomore Matthew Miranda and freshman Mary Grace Bean took on B-division. Both teams showed tremendous promise with finishes as high as third in the 18-boat fleet, but struggled with consistency ending up 10th overall.

At Sacred Heart University,  freshman Sean Beaulieu and senior crew Catherine  Corssen finished third in A-division while senior Pierce Conlin and freshman Ming Congden finished second in B-division bringing the team to an overall third place finish.

Last but not least,  senior skipper Mary Margaret Clawson an junior crew Mara Terchunian  along with senior skipper Gena Marquardt and sophomore crew Stephanie Clancy had very consistent finishes bringing the team in for an eighth place overall finish at the University of Connecticut Avery Point Sailing Center.

"We're looking forward to another week of practice," said Coach Komar. "Good things are coming if we continue to improve at this rate."
