Salve Regina leans on youth and prevails

HANOVER, N.H. - In a weekend that saw no wind on Saturday and rain on Sunday, Salve Regina competed at the Hewitt Trophy at Dartmouth College.

A change of scene from the consistent wind on Narragansett Bay, the Seahawks had to change gears to the shifty conditions on Mascoma Lake. Sophomores JP Silvestri (Stuart, Fla.) and Angelina Todaro (Ipswich, Mass.) found their groove and finished in the top six places in nine of their 10 races.  This was good enough to get Silvestri and Todaro into third place in A division.

"We are really excited about what we saw out of these guys today," comments coach Michael Komar. "It was a tough day in terms of the conditions and competition and they stepped up in a big way."

Competing in its first home regatta of the year, Salve Regina hosted the Yngling Olympians regatta out of Fort Adams. Salve Regina struggled to find its niche and finished in fourth place out of six teams.

Salve Regina looks forward to hosting the New England Sloop Championship regatta next weekend. Competing again in the Yngling, the Seahawks will use the experience from this weekend to gain an advantage sailing at the championship regatta. Sailing will take place out of Fort Adams in Newport, R.I., on October 12-13.
