Seahawks finish seventh at Tri-State Invitational

LINCOLN, R.I. (October 5, 2019) -- Senior Brett Jutras (East Bridgewater, Mass.) led Salve Regina to a seventh-place finish in the Tri-State Invitational on Saturday.

Jutras was the steadiest of the Seahawks on the looping course on the campus of the Community College of Rhode Island, splitting the opening 2,000 meters at 6:58. His pacing was even throughout each lap of the grass-and-trail course, reaching the halfway mark at 14:43, and the 6,000-meter mark at 22:41. He would finish at 29:33, well inside the top third in the field of 92 runners.

Captains Chandler Da Cruz (Middletown, R.I.) and Aidan Lynch (Little Silver, N.J.) formed a pack with seniors Riley Rancourt (Warren, R.I.) and Tanner Owens (Long Beach, N.Y.), with the group posting nearly identical splits for the first two loops of the course. The four would finish out the scoring for Salve Regina.

Trinity College sophomore Tim Lautenbach took the individual title, crossing the finish line at 26:21 and leading his team to victory. The Bantams claimed four of the top five spots and won the team title with a score of 27. Eastern Connecticut was second with 57. The Seahawks finished seventh of nine complete teams.
