Seahawks earn academic award from USTFCCCA

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University men’s cross country team has been named an All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The first-ever McAuley Cup was given in honor of Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy - who founded Salve Regina, to the 2017-18 Salve Regina men's ice hockey team.

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University director of athletics Jody Mooradian bestowed dozens of awards to student-athletes and staff on Friday evening, including the department's female and male athletes of the year - senior Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) of field hockey, and junior Blake Wojtala (Trenton, Mich.) of men's ice hockey.

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University has landed 54 student-athletes on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) 2017 Fall Academic All-Conference Team, announced by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

Salve Regina student athletes collected more than a quarter of the total donations during a conference-wide food drive.

GORHAM, Maine – Salve Regina improved by three spots at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship on Saturday. The team, which was outside of the top 40 a year ago, moved up to No. 39.

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Senior Scott Brewer (Wilbraham, Mass.) led Salve Regina to a sixth-place finish in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Cross Country Championship on Saturday.

“I am proud of the way we have raced this season. Our regular contributors have worked very well together and the atmosphere and attitude at practice has never been better,” said head coach Rob McGuinness. “We know what we need to do to reach our goals in the championship meets.”

BRISTOL, R.I. – A solid scoring pack meant a much-improved result for Salve Regina in the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday. With a 37-second spread among the team’s top five and two seconds separating the third, fourth and fifth runners, the Seahawks earned a fourth-place finish in their season-opening meet at Colt State Park on Saturday.
