Freshmen lead Seahawks at Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Salve Regina freshmen Dave Napierkowski (Cheshire, Conn.) and Austin Sattler (Guilford, Conn.) led the Seahawks to an eighth-place finish in the Golden Bears Invitational at Western New England University on Saturday.

Napierkowski and Sattler placed inside the top 40 in the field of 180 runners to lead the scoring charge for Salve Regina. Napierkowski crossed the finish line of the 8K grass-and-trail course at 29:02, with Sattler not far behind at 29:11. Junior captain Sean Hughes (Old Saybrook, Conn.) was the third man for the Seahawks, finishing at 29:31. 

Freshman John Lutz (Ringwood, N.J.) and junior captain Slater Roosa (Woodbury, Conn.) rounded out the scoring five at 29:52 and 30:06. Freshmen Scott Brewer (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Andrew Sardelli (Hope Valley, R.I.) ran at No. 6 and No. 7, finishing at 30:17 and 30:20. 

"It's encouraging to see five of our freshmen in the top seven at this point in the season. We've looked to Dave, Austin, John, Scott and Andrew for some significant scoring contributions this season, and they've answered the call," said head coach Rob McGuinness. "These guys are only going to get better as they gain experience at this level. The future is bright." 

The Seahawks finished eighth of 18 in team scoring with 224 points. Roger Williams University took the team title with a score of 45. Southern Vermont and Colby-Sawyer tied for second at 93. Hayden Bunnell of Colby-Sawyer won the individual title with a time of 26:35.
