WENHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Billy Martin (West Islip, N.Y.) led Salve Regina to a fourth-place finish in the Pop Crowell Invitational on Saturday. Martin covered the 8K trail course in 29:04 to place inside the top 15 in the field of 149 runners.

Freshmen Austin Sattler (Guilford, Conn.) and Dave Napierkowski (Cheshire, Conn.) were the second and third men for the Seahawks, finishing at 30:32 and 30:54. Sophomore Dan Regan (Westford, Mass.) and freshman John Lutz (Ringwood, N.J.) rounded out the scoring at 30:57 and 31:02. Freshmen Scott Brewer (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Andrew Sardelli (Hope Valley, R.I.) ran at No. 6 and No. 7, crossing the finish line at 31:10 and 31:30.

"This is not the type of meet where we'd expect a personal-best performance on time, and our guys ran well on a challenging, technical course," said head coach Rob McGuinness. "It is encouraging to see five freshmen in the top seven. They've certainly stepped up to make a meaningful contribution. And Billy was tremendous in the No. 1 spot. He was exactly where we needed him to be today."

The University of New England won the meet with a team score of 36. Wentworth finished second with 52 and Gordon was third with 60. The Seahawks (111) were fourth, ahead of nine scoring teams. Gordon will host the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship on Nov. 1, and there were six CCC teams in the field on Saturday.
