Seahawks drop Anchormen, 7-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Freshman Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, R.I.) picked up a straight set (6-2, 6-2) win at No. 6 singles and paired with classmate Alan Esposito (Clinton, Conn.) for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles as Rhode Island College fell, 7-2, to Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Courts.

Salve Regina (2-3) took two doubles matches to open the contest. Sophomore Jack Lawlor (York, Maine) paired with classmate Donovan Gangwere (Exton, Pa.) to defeat the RIC (0-3) duo of sophomore Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, R.I.) and sophomore Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, R.I.), 8-4, at No. 1 doubles.

Gambardella and Esposito downed sophomore Kevin Brocks (White Plains, N.Y.) and freshman D.J. Bisaillon (Watertown, Conn.) at second doubles./p>

The Seahawks saw the pairing of sophomore Will Masse (Wyoming, R.I.) and senior Matt Gingras (Wethersfield, Conn.) best the RIC duo of senior Cory Duquette (Warwick, R.I.) and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, R.I.), 8-2, at third singles./p>

No. 1 singles saw Lawlor defeat Taggart (7-6 (7-5), 6-2). Gangwere bested Tiberi (6-1, 6-0) at No. 2 singles./p>

Masse defeated Scott (6-0, 6-2) at No. 3 singles and Brocks won (7-6 (7-3), 6-4) vs. Duquette at No. 4 singles./p>

Bisaillon defeated Esposito (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5 singles, before Gambardella earned the lone singles win for the hosts by defeating Gingras in straight sets in the sixth spot.
