Salve Regina men's tennis sweeps nine from Lesley

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Salve Regina University defeated Lesley University 9-0 this afternoon in a non-conference match at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The loss drops the Lynx to 2-8 on the season while the Seahawks improve to 2-10 in the triumph.

Salve Regina's freshmen duo of Jack Lawlor (York, Maine) and Kevin Brocks (West Sand Lake, N.Y.) earned an 8-1 decision over Lesley rookie Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and sophomore Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) in the top doubles match before Seahawks seniors Matthew Carroll (Hackensack, N.J.) and Monaf Awwa (Old Lyme, Conn.) teamed up to score an 8-1 win over Lynx sophomore Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) and junior Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.). Salve completed the doubles sweep as junior Matt Gingras (Wethersfield, Conn.) and freshman Will Masse (Wyoming, R.I.) topped Lesley first year James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.) and junior Chris Barletta (Valrico, Fla.).

Lawlor bested Marcolini 6-2, 6-0 in the first flight of singles while Brocks dropped Sidell 6-1, 6-4 in the number two match. Carroll earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Baker in third singles before Awwa earned a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Tortorici in the fourth match.

Masse defeated Webb 6-1, 6-2 in number five singles before Gingras completed the 9-0 sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Barletta in the sixth and final match of the day.

The Lynx return to New England Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday when they host Wheelock College at 7:30p. The Seahawks will also return to the courts on Tuesday as they welcome Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Western New England University at 3:30 p.m.
