Corsairs clip Seahawks, 7-2, in non-league tennis action

NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior Daniel Chouinard (Westport, Mass.) helped the visiting Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth score a 7-2 decision over Salve Regina University in non-league men's tennis action on the Seahawks' campus in Newport.

Chouinard won at No. 1 doubles with partner Corey Rafter (Franklin, Mass.), an 8-2 victory over Seahawks' freshman pair Donovan Gangewere (Exton, Pa.) and Jack Lawlor (York, Maine). Chouinard later defeated Gangewere in straight sets at No. 1 singles, improving his season record to 4-3 in solo play.

UMass Dartmouth improves to 2-5 overall while Salve Regina drops to 1-9 on the season.

After getting swept in doubles play, Salve Regina earned its two points on singles at No. 2 with Lawlor and No. 6 with junior Ben Campbell (Carolina, R.I.). For Campbell, it was his first ever appearance in the singles lineup.

Salve Regina returns to action after the Easter break with three matches on the road, including a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contests - Eastern Nazarene (4/8) and Wentworth (4/11). The Corsairs begin their Little East Conference (LEC) schedule with a home match Saturday against Southern Maine.
