Wheaton blanks Salve Regina in men's tennis indoors, 9-0
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Wheaton College men's tennis team shutout Salve Regina University, 9-0, on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at the Centre Court tennis facilities.
Juniors Will White (Nantucket, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) and Shreve Archer (Pebble Beach, Calif./Stevenson School) won their respective singles matches in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) as White defeated Donovan Gangewere (Exton, Pa./Henderson) at No. 1 and Archer turned away Matthew Carroll (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) at the No. 3 position.
Senior captain Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) claimed a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles, while sophomore Alden Zeff (Stratham, N.H./St. Stephen's Episcopal School) won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. First-year Tyler Butler (Portland, Maine/Deering) was victorious at the No. 5 slot with a 6-2, 6-3 score and junior Jim Beaton (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket Regional) posted a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 6.
In doubles, White and Chan bested Gangewere and Jack Lawlor (York, Maine/York) at the No. 1 position by an 8-3 margin, while Archer and Zeff posted an 8-1 win at No. 2 and Beaton and Butler registered an 8-2 victory in the final doubles match.
Wheaton (2-0) hosts Eastern Nazarene in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, March 18 at 4 p.m. Salve Regina (0-5) hosts Gordon College on Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m.
