NEWPORT, R.I. - Temperatures quickly dipped below 50 degrees as Salve Regina University and Johnson & Wales University competed in a non-league men's tennis match. The Wildcats swept the doubles, losing only eight games out of 32, and then swept the singles for a 9-0 victory.

Johnson & Wales improves to 3-0 (all in the last week) while Salve Regina drops to 0-2.

C.J. Maksut (Saco, Maine), who sat out the doubles action after starting in both roles on Thursday, rallied to force a third set at sixth singles. He finish a third-set tiebreak on the losing end of a 10-4 score against sophomore Jake McGuire (Great Mills, Md.) to complete the shutout for JWU.

Salve Regina's No. 1 doubles pair - captains Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) and Khoa Nguyen (Haverhill, Mass.) made a match of it against Nicholas Auffret (Holtsville, N.Y.) and Andre Barbero (Brielle, N.J.).

The Wildcats travel to Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. match; Salve Regina stays home through Saturday when it hosts Nichols College in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener for both schools.
