Battling Bishops beat Seahawks, 9-0

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Ohio Wesleyan University won its third match of the season, sweeping Salve Regina University, 9-0, at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Unfortunately the Seahawks saw defeat in all matches against Old Wesleyan.

In the singles rounds, senior Aaron Isch (Tolland, Conn.) fought against senior Will Thieman (Columbus, Ohio) with final set scores of 6-0 and 6-4. Junior Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) of the Seahawks battles junior Richie Karban (Elyria, Ohio) also striking defeat with both set scores being 6-2. Seahawk freshman Khoa Nguyen (Haverhill, Mass.) fought against senior John Rissell (Whitefish Bay, Wisc.) with both sets being 6-1. Senior Kenneth McCormack (Falmouth, Mass.) of Salve Regina lost to sophomore Conor Breen (Essex Fells, N.J.) with both sets finishing at 6-2. Monaf Awwa played against junior John Russell (Maumee, Ohio) with the first set finishing at 6-0 and the second at 6-1. In the final singles match, Salve Regina senior Brian Sweeney played against and lost to freshman Austin Okray (North Canton, Ohio) with each two sets being 6-1.

In the doubles rounds, Salve also saw defeat against Ohio Wesleyan. Gunning and Isch were defeated by Karban and Rissell finishing at 8-1, Breen and Thieman defeated the Seahawks McCormack and Nguyen. In the last doubles match, Awwa and Sweeney battled agains Okray and Russell.
