CCC Defensive Player of the Week: Casey Kelly

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 15, 2019) - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University junior Casey Kelley (Waldwick, N.J.) as its Defensive Player of the Week for men's soccer (October 7 - 13).

Defensive Player of the Week - Kelly was at the heart of a Salve Regina backline that helped earn the Seahawks a pair of shutout wins. Salve Regina's opponents were not only kept off the scoreboard, they were also held without a shot on goal. In a 5-0 victory against Lasell, Kelly and the defense held the Lasers to just three total shots. In conference play, the Seahawks allowed eight shots to the University of New England, but none on goal. Kelly also provided an assist on the game-winning goal against the Nor'easters, helping Salve Regina stay unbeaten in conference play.

"Casey has been an absolute stalwart for us ever since he walked into pre-season three years ago," says 13th-year head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "This year, his passing and possession is totaly on-point with how he contributes to our shape going forward."

Salve Regina (8-3-3, 2-0-2 CCC) just began a five-game road trip with a 4-1 win at MCLA in North Adams, Mass., yesterday afternoon, and returns to western Massachusetts when it faces Western New England University in CCC action on Wednesday.
