CCC Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week: Sam Winiarski

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 15, 2019) - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University freshman Sam Winiarski (Westfield, Mass.) as its Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week for men's soccer (October 7 - 13).

Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week - Winiarski netted goals in both of Salve Regina's contests this week, both shutout victories. First on Oct. 10 against Lasell, Winiarski capped off a five-goal effort by the Seahawks as they cruised passed the Lasers with a 5-0 result. Then in conference play, the first-year striker added two more tallies as Salve Regina defeated the University of New England, 3-0, to remain unbeaten in CCC play. Winiarski has really turned up his scoring game as of late with five goals in his last six games.

"(Sam's) willingness to convert from playing on the width to moving up top has helped us add a greater degree of possession in our opponent's half," says 13th-year head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "That is now allowing us to create better scoring chances over the course of the 90 minutes."

Salve Regina (8-3-3, 2-0-2 CCC) just began a five-game road trip with a 4-1 win at MCLA in North Adams, Mass., yesterday afternoon, and returns to western Massachusetts when it faces Western New England University in CCC action on Wednesday.
