NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University senior goalkeeper Michael Payan (Fort Lee, N.J.) as its Defensive Player of the Week for men's soccer (Sept. 17-23).

Defensive Player of the Week - Payan had an outstanding week with his four saves on Wednesday (Sept. 19) which earned Salve Regina a shutout in its 3-0 victory over Coast Guard. Payan made four saves again on Saturday (Sept. 22) leading Salve Regina to a shutout draw in double overtime against Endicott. Payan currently leads the conference in shutouts (6), fewest goals allowed (3), goals against average (.360), and is second in save percentage (.900).

Salve Regina (7-0-1, 1-0-1 CCC) has its second-best start ever to a season (2012 started 8-0-0) and plays a pair of home games this week - Wed., Sept. 26 versus Massachusetts Maritime Academy (3:30 p.m.) and Sat., Sept. 29 versus Western New England University (3 p.m.).
