Warren, Brady score two apiece in Seahawk victory

EAST BOSTON, Mass. – The Suffolk men's soccer team came back and tied the game twice, but it was not enough as Salve Regina bested the Rams, 4-3, at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park Monday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Salve Regina quickly took a 1-0 lead on a header just under five minutes in and added to its advantage at the midway point. The Seahawks limited the Rams to just two attempts in the first 45 minutes to send the hosts into intermission down 2-0. Out of the break, Suffolk wasted no time to start a brand new game, scoring two goals, both off corners within four minutes of each other. The lead was short-lived as Salve Regina used a corner of its own to go back in front, 3-2. Suffolk was able to lock things up once more with six minutes to play, but Salve Regina answered 21 seconds later to go back in front. The Seahawks held off the comeback to walk away with their first victory of the season.

GOALS GALORE

With five minutes removed from the clock, Jordan Elster flew a cross from the 30-yard line to a jumping Jared Warren, who used his head to put away his team-leading third goal of the year. Salve Regina took a 1-0 edge at 5:49.Warren struck again in the 21st minute to put the Rams in a 2-0 hole. On a Suffolk drive a Rams header miscued and went in the wrong direction. Warren picked up the pieces and shot past Jon Brodeur to make it a Seahawks two-goal lead. Coming out in full force from the locker room it took just four minutes for the Rams to cut the deficit to one. Jarrett Davis sent a corner from the right to Alberto Bittan in front of the net. The NCAA Division III point leader added another handout to his growing stat line when Diego Puig-Corve used Bittan's pass to put away his first goal of the season. Less than five minutes later Davis headed to the opposite corner for Suffolk's fourth corner kick of the day. Aaron Haggas was on the receiving end of Davis' set up and he capitalized, scoring his second goal of the season to even the playing field at 2-all. Another five minutes ticked off the clock before the next tally was added to the scoreboard thanks to a corner kick, but this time it was Salve's side that added a number. Evan Dudney took the corner and the Seahawks quickly converged in front of Brodeur's net. The Rams' goalie could not make the grab as Nolan Brady put Salve Regina back in front, 3-2, thanks to a dish from Evan MacDonald.Under seven minutes remained in regulation and things got interesting. Thanks to another corner the score tied for the second time thanks to Puig-Corve's second tally of the day and season. Ben Daniels was credited with assist on the game-tying goal. 21 seconds later and the Seahawks regained the lead. On a breakaway, Nolan scored his second of the evening to make it a 4-3 Salve Regina lead with just over six minutes to play.

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

In his second collegiate start, Brodeur made six saves and gave up four goals to move to 1-1-0 on the season. Bryan McCormak, meanwhile, picked up his first win of the season in just his second game thanks to three saves.
