DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Salve Regina University scored a pair of goals in the opening 14 minutes of regulation to earn a 2-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth this evening in a NCAA Division III men's soccer contest on Cressy Field.

The Seahawks (3-3) wasted little time in cracking the scoring column as the visitors scored off their first attempt.  Senior back Kyle Knoth (East Islip, N.Y.) sent a cross that was headed in by classmate Alec Shuman (Pompton Plains, N.Y.). The Corsairs (2-3) were unable to clear Shuman's first marker of the season off the end line. Eleven minutes later, senior Issa Demirgioglu (Smithfield, R.I.) played a through ball over the top of the hosts' defensive third that classmate Alex Wasilewski (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) was able to run onto and beat the charging UMass Dartmouth keeper for the eventual game-winner.

The Corsairs began to solve the Salve Regina defensive backfield in the second stanza.  In the 53rd minute, senior Ryland Foster-Gorbach (West Roxbury, Mass. / Catholic Memorial) laced a low shot through traffic, but the Seahawk keeper was able to dive to his right to push the attempt just wide of the cage.

In the 80th minute, junior Troy Martins (Attleboro, Mass.) launched a high arching shot from 35 yards out that the visitors' netminder punched over the crossbar.

Facing their first shutout of the season, UMass Dartmouth was able to split the deficit when senior Josh Chao (New Bedford, Mass.) delivered an off-balance shot that was deflected into the back of the net by a Salve Regina defender for an own goal.

In between the pipes, senior Kyle Kureczka (Berlin, Conn.) made seven stops to earn his second victory of the season. His counterpart, sophomore Andrew Deane (Woburn, Mass.), stopped four Seahawks attempts in his first start of the 2014 campaign.

The visitors held a 21-14 advantage in shots, while enjoying an 8-6 lead in corner kicks.
