Seahawks begin 2018 on the road

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team will open the 2018 season on Saturday, February 17, when it travels to Clarke University for a 1 p.m. contest.

After beginning the season on the road the Seahawks will play seven of the next eight games at home, including five straight beggining with a non-conference matchup with Salem State on February 24.

With nine seniors and many freshmen, the 2018 Seahawks will have a good mix of experience and young talent.  The 2018 Seahawks will boast five sets of brothers on the squad. Seniors Matt D'Amore (Duxbury, Mass), Zach Makoske (Shoreham, N.Y.), and Mike Sheehan (Wading River, N.Y.) will serve as captains. D'Amore, the anchor of the Seahawks defense last season, made 210 saves, ranking second in the CCC.

Salve Regina will be the first team in action of the season when they square off with the Cougars from Clarke (Mass.). The eight other Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) teams get underway the following week. The conference schedule kicks off with a single matchup on Wednesday, March 7 between UNE and Endicott. The first full conference play date is Saturday, March 24. The top six teams in the 2018 regular-season conference standings will qualify for the CCC Championship Tournament, which starts with the quarterfinals on Saturday, April 28 and concludes with the Conference Championship on Friday, May 4. The CCC Tournament Champion will earn the conference's automatic qualifier in to the 2018 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship.
