Summary
The Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team staved off a late comeback from visiting Emmanuel College to win 7-5 on opening day.

1 – Salve Regina junior Andrew Fera (Cranston, R.I.) - scored four goals and grabbed five ground balls.
2 – Salve Regina junior Matt D'Amore (Duxbury, Mass.) - stopped 18 of 23 shots to earn the win.
3 – Emmanuel senior Tony Cibelli (Westboro, Mass.) - scored two goals, both in the final two minutes to draw the Saints within one score.

The Seahawks man-down defense was outstanding, holding the saints to 1-for-11 with the man advantage.
Turning Point
The Seahawks led 3-0 late in the second quarter but had dodged six man-up opportunities for the Saints. In the final seconds of the half, Nick LoCicero fired the ball from midfield to Andrew Fera in front of the net, and he buried a shot at the Buzzer to give the Seahawks a 4-0 lead at half. Fera would add his fourth of the day midway through the third for a 5-0 Seahawks lead. The Saints outscored the Seahawks 5-3 the rest of the way but the deficit proved to big to overcome.
Quick Hits
- Trailing 6-3 with three minutes left the Saints finally cashed in on the man-up when Tony Cibelli snapped a shot from the wing past D'Amore to make it a two score game with 2:10 left. The Saints won the ensuing face-off and again Cibelli took the ball in a crowd and drove to the front of the net, firing a shot home for his second goal in a span of 13 seconds to make it a one goal game. The Seahawks won the next draw and looked to milk clock then drew a penalty to go man-up. The Saints pulled their goalie to try and force a turnover, but Zach Makoske (Shoreham, N.Y.) scored for the Seahawks on the empty net to end the suspense.
- Charlie Moran (Maitland, Fla.) scored twice in the third quarter, and Donnie Litzelman (Stratham, N.H.) added a goal in the fourth to round out the scoring for the Saints.
- The Seahawks outshot the Saints 40-26 in the game.
- The teams were almost even in groundballs. The Seahawks picked up 36 while the Saints grabbed 34.
- While Emmanuel was 1-for-11 with the man-up, the Seahawks did not score on the man advantage, going 0-for-5.
- Today's game was the earliest start in program history, making it the earliest win in program history.
