Gonzalez, LoCicero named captains for 2017
NEWPORT, R.I. – Seniors Nick LoCicero (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Jake Gonzalez (Tolland, Conn.) will serve as team captains of the Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team for the 2017 season.
"Nick and Jake are outstanding leaders," said head coach Patrick Cooney. "The team overwhelmingly voted them captains. Over their first three years, they have respectively fostered a positive winning team culture that has helped develop our student-athletes. They achieve in academia, athletics, and the greater community".
Nick LoCicero will graduate in May 2017 with a bachelors in Marketing and a bachelors in Business Administration. He is a member of the American Marketing Association. The senior attackman also served as captain in 2015 and 2016. LoCicero currently serves as President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and served as Vice-President in 2016. Last season as a junior, he became the all-time leading point scorer in the program's history. In three years, LoCicero has recorded 205 points (61 goals and 144 assists). In 2016, he recorded 80 points (29 goals and 51 with 53 ground balls). He holds several all-time, season, and single game Seahawk records. "Nick has developed into a complete lacrosse player. He has worked hard to become a scoring threat in addition to his vision and passing ability. We look forward to seeing him continue to make those around him better," said Cooney.
Jake Gonzalez will graduate in May 2017 with a bachelors in Business Administration. The senior face-off midfielder is also a member of the American Marketing Association and serves on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). For the last three years, Gonzalez has taken the majority of the draws for the Seahawks. In 2016, he recorded 79 ground balls with a 57.8% (208-360). From 2014-2016, Gonzalez took 617 faceoffs, winning 333; he currently ranks third all-time in Seahawk faceoff win percentage history at 54%. "Jake has grit. He has been getting good reps for three years and I know those experiences will help the team in 2017. I love watching him compete for the ground ball. He brings the necessary energy, toughness, and poise required by his role," said Cooney.
The Seahawks begin the 2017 season on February 18, at Emmanuel College in Boston, Mass.
