NEWTON, Mass. -- Eighty-nine senior men's lacrosse players have earned selection to the 2016 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Academic All-New England teams including attack Sharp Jones (Scituate, Mass.) of the Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team.

The teams are nominated by head coaches in Divisions 1, 2, and 3, and are comprised of student-athletes who have excelled both in the classroom and on the field over the course of their men's lacrosse career.

Sixty-five student-athletes from 29 different Division 3 institutions met the criteria, which required that nominees must have senior standing, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and be a significant enough player that he was nominated for at least All-Conference selection.

Division 1 schools produced 18 Academic All-New England honorees this year, while six student-athletes from Division 2 met the required criteria for inclusion.

Amherst College led all institutions with eight candidates this year, while fellow Division 3 and NESCAC member Middlebury had six selections, a number matched by two Division 1 Ivy League members, Brown University and Harvard University.

Jones scored 46 goals in his final season as a Seahawk. His 133 career goals rank second best in program history.
