Seahawks edge Scots on Senior Day

SEAHAWK MEN'S LACROSSE RESULTS

Salve Regina 14, Gordon 11
Middletown, R.I. – Gaudet Field
Saturday, April 16, 2016

Summary
The Salve Regina University men's lacrosse battled neck and neck with Gordon College but was able to edge out a 14-11 victory on Senior Day at Gaudet Field.

Series and Streaks
This was the 23rd meeting between Salve Regina and Gordon. Despite today's loss the Scots still own a 17-6 advantage in the all-time series.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Salve Regina junior Nick LoCicero (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scored four times and dished out three assists.
2 – Gordon sophomore Nico Manganiello (Peabody, Mass.) scored four goals.
3 – Salve Regina sophomore Andrew Fera (Cranston, R.I.) scored three times, added an assist, and collected a game-high 12 ground balls.

Key Stat of the Game
The Seahawks outshot the Scots 52-31 and held 21 ball advantage in groundballs (62-41).

Turning Point
The Seahawks never trailed in the game, but the Scots continued to fight back every time it seemed the Seahawks were ready to blow the game open. Consistently trailing by three goals, Gordon would rally to draw within one, only to have the lead pushed back again. Peter Kovacevic (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored off the draw to open the fourth quarter and the Scots were within one again, 10-9. However the Seahawks would score four of the next five goals over a 10 minute span to lead comfortably by four down the stretch.
