Summary
The Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team opened the 2016 season with a 9-6, wire-to-wire victory over visiting Emmanuel College on Saturday in non-conference action at Gaudet Field.

Series and Streaks
This was the first ever meeting between the two teams. The Seahawks now own a 1-0 record versus the Saints.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Salve Regina junior Nick LoCicero (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scored a hat-trick and also handed out two assists.
2 – Salve Regina senior Sharp Jones (Scituate, Mass.) also notched a hat-trick
3 – Salve Regina freshman Alex Makoske (Shoreham, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the season for Salve Regina and added a second tally in the second quarter.

Key Stat of the Game
The Seahawks won 15 of 18 face-offs and were perfect on the draw in the second and fourth quarters.

Turning Point
The Seahawks struck first with 9:08 remaining in the first quarter then scored two more times to make it a 3-0 game through one. The teams both scored twice in the second and Emmanuel scored to open the third to inch back within two scores, but the Seahawks again reeled off three straight goals to push the lead to 8-3. The Saints would never get close again until tacking on a pair of late goals in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter.

  • The Saints outshot the Seahawks in the game 37-33.
  • Both teams were 1-2 with the man advantage.
  • Sophomore goalie Matt D'Amore (Duxbury, Mass.) made 13 saves for Salve Regina, while Cole Scadden (San Diego, Calif.) and Andrew Blood (Wrentham, Mass.) split time in net, with Blood making 10 saves, and Scadden making four.
  • Tony Cibelli (Westboro, Mass.) scored with 5:01 to go in the fourth and Chris Curtis (Ashland, Mass.) added his second of the day to draw the Saints within three with 56 seconds to go, but it was too late for the Saints and the Seahawks were able to kill the rest of the clock and seal the victory.
  • The Seahawks win their home opener for the third straight season.
