Seahawks land 46 on two-season academic team

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University has landed 46 student-athletes on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) 2014-15 Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference Team, announced Friday, June 5 by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

The Academic All-Conference Team consists of any starter or significant reserve who has attained at least sophomore status and has maintained an overall minimum GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00. This is the third time the honor has been separated into two seasons - fall and winter/spring. In total, 405 student-athletes representing all 10 member institutions were selected for the Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference Team.

Of the honorees, 74 were either first team, second team, or honorable mention All-CCC selections in their sport these past two seasons.

Also noteworthy is that the Athlete(s) of the Year and/or the Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the eight CCC winter and springsports received Academic All-Conference laurels, including baseball Pitcher of the Year, Nick Quattro (Endicott), and Senior Scholar-Athletes ofthe Year, Matt Anziano (Western New England) and Wesley Arning (Gordon), men's basketball Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, JohnMichaelFragnoli (Wentworth), and Defensive Player of the Year, Hans Miersma (Gordon), women's basketball Player of the Year, KellyColeman (University of New England), Defensive Player of the Year, Lauren Hayden (University of New England), and Senior Scholar-Athleteof the Year, Kylie Beltz (Curry), men's golf Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Jared Melman (University of New England), men's lacrosseSenior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Mark Fesenmeyer (Roger Williams), women's lacrosse Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Emily Castleman(Western New England), softball Pitcher of the Year, Lauren Zambrano (Western New England), and Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, SamCurran (Wentworth) and men's tennis Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, PJ Nassar (Western New England).
